Would it be allowed to buy an Xbox 360 Controller used to GameStop or is it risky?

I need an extra controller and I thought to get an Xbox 360 used controller. was probably going to get the controller with the wire.Is it risky to buy a controller used? I do not want a controller where the buttons or analog is messed up. Anyone recommend buying a controller used?
